The transition for the city’s garbage service begins tomorrow. In the morning, Santek, the new provider for garbage service in our city, will begin delivering the new cans. On September 10, Santek sent a mailer to all residents of Gardendale with information detailing the transition to a new provider. Unfortunately, many of our residents still have not received this mailer.
To help get the needed information out, I have asked Santek to attach the mailer to every can delivered beginning tomorrow. When the new cans are delivered to your residence please remove and read the mailer. This should answer most of your questions. Cans will be delivers daily, through September 29, including Saturday, until all customers have received their cans. Then, October 1, Santek will begin their garbage service for our city.
It is my understanding that beginning tomorrow Republic will begin picking up their cans. I have received many messages voicing concerns that they may be without a container for several days. This should not be the case.
I just spoke on the phone with our rep from Santek sharing the before mentioned concerns. He assured me that the most time that those should be without a container would be for a few hours. In the event that this is not the case, please call 631-1313 and they will make a special delivery to your residence delivering you a container.
In regards to recycling, in order to offer this service, 300 customers are needed. Recycling calls are growing so they are making preliminary plans for the possible start up of that service. If you are interested please call 631-1313 to sign up for recycling.
I hope that this answers most of your questions and concerns. I’ll do all that I can to insure as smooth a transition as possible.
Stan Hogeland, Mayor
City of Gardendale
