Century Shoppes at Gardendale acquired by Preferred Growth Properties
Groundbreaking for Publix Super Market set for July 30th as T.J.Maxx joins new development
Gardendale, AL – July 1, 2013 – The City of Gardendale is pleased to announce that the property known as the Century Shoppes at Gardendale, located on the corner of Odum Road and Fieldstown Road just off of Interstate 65, has been sold by Century Retail, an affiliate of Century Realty Funds, Inc. (CRF), based out of Central Florida, to Preferred Growth Properties.
Preferred Growth Properties (PGP), a subsidiary of Books-A-Million, Inc., develops and invests in commercial retail shopping centers located in the Southeastern U.S.
“This is a great day for our city,” said City Council President Stan Hogeland. “The single most frequently asked question of the Mayor and Council has been “But what about Publix”? Well, that question has now been answered! We’ve endured the skepticism and jokes, even though we all knew we were working hard to make this happen.”
The new group intends to develop the property with Publix as an anchor store. T.J.Maxx will open next to Hobby Lobby; and, beside it, a new structure will house new tenants.
Negotiations are underway with several potential new tenants that will be announced once their leases are executed.
Groundbreaking for the development is scheduled for July 30th, time to be announced.
“On July 30th, we’re not just planning your typical groundbreaking ceremony. We want to have a celebration, where we bring together the whole town and welcome PGP to Gardendale. The event will be planned in the evening when more people can attend.” said Hogeland.
The City of Gardendale welcomes this development group and looks forward to the increased quality of life this development will bring to citizens and shoppers in Gardendale.
